Does the month you list in matter?

In plain English

A little. Homes listed in October did best — 28% didn’t sell within a year — and homes listed in August did worst, at 35%. That’s a real difference, but a small one next to price, size or flood zone.

How fast a home sells changes more: homes listed in December that sold got an offer in about 37 days; in June, about 71 days.

For example: listing in August instead of October has meant about 1 more home in every 10 still unsold a year later.

How to read this: a longer bar means homes listed that month were harder to sell.

What it means for you

If you are sellingList when your home and your price are ready. Certain months sell a bit faster, but no month rescues the wrong price.
What these words mean
Did not sell within a year
No sale was agreed within 12 months of the home first going on the market, even if the listing was cancelled and put back up in between.
Accepted offer
The day the seller agreed to a buyer’s offer (also called “under contract”). The sale usually closes about a month later.
Median
The middle number: half of the homes were above it and half below. A few extreme sales cannot pull it around.
